Lent is coming!

In preparation for the coming Great Fast, the Eastern Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada invites all Youth, ages 7–25, together with their parents to attend a Retreat — on Saturday, February 27th, 2016, from 1:15pm — at St. Demetrius’ Ukrainian Orthodox Sobor — 3338 Lakeshore Boulevard West, Toronto, ON.

The theme of this Retreat is: “Love”.

“And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
—1 Cor 13:13

SCHEDULE:

• 1:15 Light Lunch

• 1:30 Sessions Begin:

1) In the Choir Loft — with the wonderfully positive energy of choir conductor, Zhana Zinchenko

2) In the Kitchen — whipping up sweet and savoury things to satisfy any appetite, with Dobr. Tania

3) Ask Dr. Peter — an opportunity to engage in open dialogue about what matters to you, with Dr. Peter Kondra

4) “Love” — an engaging, clergy-led discussion

ADMISSION to the Retreat is FREE.

SOCIAL EVENT:

Following Supper, those interested are invited to a social event: a friendly game of laser tag (combining “the classic game of hide-and-seek and tag with a high tech twist”) at Laser Quest.

ADMISSION to Laser Quest for (youth) Retreat participants: $10.

All Eparchy Youth, ages 7–25, together with their parents, are encouraged to attend.

Following Vespers, СУМК invites everyone to Ripley’s Aquarium.

In the Psalm that is read at the opening of Vespers (Psalm 103), we praise and glorify God — the God of Creation:

How magnified are Your works, O Lord! In wisdom You made them all. The earth is replete with Your creations.
This sea, how great and spacious it is! Therein are innumerable creeping things, animals both small and great.

Following our day together, you’ll have a chance to immerse yourself in a world inhabited by 16,000 of these “animals both small and great” creeping, swimming and floating through 5.7 million litres of water — from freshwater bays to saltwater reefs and forbidding lagoons — in North America’s longest underwater viewing tunnel, at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada.

Admission

There is NO COST to attend the Retreat itself. Admission to Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada will be offered at REDUCED COST.

Tentative Schedule

• Registration: 1:45pm
• Start Time/Ice Breakers: 2:00pm
• Session I: 2:15pm
• Session II: 3:10pm
• Session III: 4:00pm

• Supper: 5:00pm

• Vespers: 6:00pm

• Depart for Ripley’s Aquarium: 7:00pm
• Aquarium Fun: 7:30pm and onwards

Постова Весна: молодіжний ретріт

На нашій афіші було виразно проголошено “Постову Bесну”. Тридцять шість дітей і підлітків із семи парафій Східної Єпархії зібралися разом, аби, усамітнившись від зовнішнього світу, зануритися в роздуми про Великий піст, який є нашою духовною підготовкою до радісного Свята Воскресіння Христового – Великодня!!

Цього дня кипіла різноманітна діяльність: практичні заняття, спів, інтерактивні презентації та доповіді. Добровольці Союзу Українок Канади навчали молодь випікати паски, а Олександр Турянський показував процес виготовлення свічок і дозволяв охочим занурювати свічки у розплавлений віск.

Оксана Клиновська навчала співати “Христос Воскрес” у новій українській версії. Отець Богдан Гладьо і д-р Петро Кондра провели сесію “Питання та відповіді”.

Читець Франко Дяковський зробив пізнавальну, захопливу, наповнену реальними фактами доповідь про піст, молитву, сповідь, Тріоді та інші речі, які збагатили учасників новими знаннями.

O 5-ій год. вечора. о. Богдан відслужив вечірню. Приспів вели Сенді Такач та читці Ґеза Такач і Марк Шефер.

Члени Союзу Українок Канади з любов’ю приготували смачну вечерю для всіх учасників і їхніх батьків.

Увечері молодь каталася на роликах і грала в пейнтбол.

Присутні не лише чудово та весело провели цей час, а й отримали поживу для роздумів.

  • Особлива подяка соборові святого Димитрія за дозвіл використовувати своє приміщення та речі.
