Letter of Thanks — from Rev. Fr. Lubomyr Hluchaniuk

Your Grace, Reverend Fathers, Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ —

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and kind words on the occasion of my ordination at the Ukrainian Orthodox Chapel of All Saints of Ukrainian Lands in Oakville on Sunday June 14. It has been two months now since my ordination and one thing I would like to stress and ask for in abundance is for everyone’s sincere prayers that God help me in everything as a priest. This is an awesome and huge task to bear and I need God’s guidance and help so as not to fall into traps that the deceiver will inevitably set in front of my path as to make me fall.

We all make mistakes even with the best of intentions due to our fallen sinful nature. I ask for everyone’s help, support and love when inevitably I will make mistakes as I will try to help, support and love everyone through their tribulations all the while trying to live in unity within the Church. As I look forward to helping and serving everyone in love and unity, I ask for your help by living a Christ-centred life. With so many distractions within our North American culture, we need to constantly re-focus our minds and hearts toward God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit and not only on Sundays but every day of our life. I am no different than anyone else and I constantly struggle with this. I constantly catch myself being caught up with worldly things and temporarily forgetting about Christ. I truly and sincerely believe that it is possible, for one’s mind and heart to live constantly in remembrance of Jesus Christ — but it takes a lot of work and effort on our part if we are to succeed and live in God’s love and joy.

We need the help and support of one another and we need each other’s prayers in unity and love, which is the Church. And I your sinful servant in Christ will need everyone’s prayers as I endeavour to pray for everyone’s soul and for our Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada. May we not lose our focus and love for our Lord, Jesus Christ with all of the worldly distractions vying for our time and vying for our thoughts and vying for our actions.

Let us endeavour to live in God’s love with modesty, piety, benevolence, kindliness, reasonableness, mildness, forbearance and holiness. Just as Jesus said,

“With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)

Everything hinges on and flows out of, our Lord’s first and greatest commandment.

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)

Amen.

Your newly ordained servant in Christ,

Fr. Lubomyr

Akathist to Holy Great-Martyr and Healer Panteleimon

Great-Martyr and Healer St. Panteleimon

Great-Martyr and Healer St. Panteleimon

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

With the blessing of His Grace, Bishop ANDRIY —

Following Saturday and Sunday services throughout August, the parishioners of St. Anne’s parish in Scarborough have been reading the Akathist to the Great-Martyr and Healer St. Panteleimon before the icon that bears his relic — material from the saint’s burial shroud.

As the month draws to a close, we invite all brothers and sisters in Christ to join us in our veneration as we sing, with one voice:

Rejoice, Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon!

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ —

Glory to Jesus Christ!

I greet you on the occasion of this national holiday – the Independence Day of Ukraine!

This day is the result of the millennial struggle of the Ukrainian people for the right to have their own state. But sadly, historical circumstances unfolded in a way that saw Ukrainian lands dominated by enemies who sought to destroy the Ukrainian nation. Yet in spite of all this, Ukrainians fought — and continue to fight — for their freedom and independence.

Without question, the battles being waged on the territory of Ukraine today have become a test for us all — a test of our maturity, patriotism, patience, and tolerance. There can be no doubt that in this war the people of Ukraine will overcome — and will be able in future to improve life in their own country — in that country purchased by the suffering of generations of Ukrainians, for which so many young lives and so much patriotic blood were sacrificed.

I am sure that with God’s help, Ukraine will flourish. This day will surely to come, but we all need to work productively for the good of our Homeland – Ukraine.

Prayerfully and with my whole soul, I wish you good health, joy, happiness and faith in a bright future for Ukraine!

Glory to Ukraine!

May the blessing of the Lord be upon you!

+Andriy

Archpastoral Visitation of His Grace, Bishop ANDRIY (Peshko) to the UOCC Parish of the Holy Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul, Niagara Falls, ON

uocceast_SCRIPTURE_Sts.Peter-PaulWe magnify you, Holy Apostles of Christ, who have enlightened the whole universe and brought all the ends of the earth to Christ.

[ The Holy Apostles Peter and Paul]

Glory to Jesus Christ!

On July 12, 2015 the parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Parish of Sts. Peter and Paul in Niagara Falls, Ontario celebrated the Feast Day of their temple, dedicated to the Holy, Glorious, All-Praised Leaders of the Apostles Sts. Peter and Paul — with the Visitation of His Grace, Bishop ANDRIY and the service of the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy.

Reverend Father Lubomyr Hluchaniuk greeted His Grace on behalf of Reverend Father George Halycia, himself recovering from illness. For Father Lubomyr, the feast marked a return of sorts — to a community where his own father, Reverend Father Theodot Hluchaniuk — still fondly remembered by parishioners — once served.
