On Saturday, August 19, St. Anne’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Toronto celebrated the Transfiguration of the Lord. After Resurrection of Christ and the Birth of our Holy Saviour, this is the third most important celebration of our Lord. This is the day our Lord Jesus Christ transformed himself on Mount Tabor in front of his disciples Peter, James and John, showing the world that He is truly the Son of God. This Transfiguration is one of the miracles of Jesus. This miracle is unique among all others that appear in the gospels, in that the miracle happens to Jesus himself. It complemented baptism and showed the perfection of life in Heaven. Today, this miracle, enlightened our hearts.
As part of our custom, Ukrainians bring fruit to church for blessing as a sign of our gratitude to God for His mercy. Apples, pears, honey, plums and grapes which have ripened to perfection were blessed and sanctified by Father Volodymyr Feskiv at St. Anne’s Church. The Lord has sent us a generous and bountiful harvest this year, and we thank Him for His great mercy upon us and celebrate with joy!
