We magnify You, Christ the Giver-of-life, and we honour Your All-Holy Spirit, Whom You sent from the Father to Your Holy Disciples.
After each verse, we repeat the Magnification.
1. The heavens declare the Glory of God; and the firmament proclaims the work of His hands.
2. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
3. Cast me not away from your presence; and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
4. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

ANTIPHON ONE, TONE 2:

(Psalm 18:2, 3, 5)

1. The heavens declare the Glory of God; and the firmament proclaims the work of His hands.
After each verse, we sing the refrain:

2. Day to day pours forth speech and night to night proclaims knowledge.

ANTIPHON TWO, TONE 2:

(Psalm 19:2, 3, 5)

1. May the Lord hear you in the day of affliction, may the Name of the God of Jacob defend you.
After each verse, we sing the refrain:
Refrain: O Gracious Comforter, save us who sing to You: Alleluia.
2. May He send you help from His sanctuary and aid out of Zion.
3. May He grant you your heart’s desire and fulfill your every wish.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
O only-begotten son….

ANTIPHON THREE, TONE 8:

(Psalm 20:2, 3, 4)

1. О Lord, the king shall rejoice in Your strength, and greatly delight in Your deliverance.
After each verse, we sing the Tropar, in tone 8:
Tropar, tone 8: Blessed are You, O Christ our God, Who has revealed the fishermen to be most wise, by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit and through them drew the universe into Your net. O Lover-of-Mankind, glory to You.
2. You granted him his soul’s desire, and did not deny the plea of his lips.
3. You anticipated him with Your goodness’ blessings; You set a crown of precious stone upon his head.

ENTRANCE HYMN:

(Psalm 20:13)

Be exalted, O Lord, in Your power: with song and psaltery we will praise Your mighty deeds.

TROPAR, TONE 8:

Blessed are You, O Christ our God, Who has revealed the fishermen to be most wise, by sending down upon them the Holy Spirit and through them drew the universe into Your net. O Lover-of-Mankind, glory to You.

KONDAK OF PENTECOST, TONE 8:

When the Most High descended and confused the tongues, He divided the nations: But when He distributed the tongues of fire, He called all to unity. Therefore, with one voice, we glorify the All-Holy Spirit.

INSTEAD OF THE TRISAGION HYMN:

(Galatians 3:27)

As many as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. Alleluia.

PROKEIMEN, TONE 8:

(Psalm 18:5, 2)

Their proclamation has gone out into all the earth and their words to the ends of the universe.
Verse: The heavens declare the Glory of God and the firmament proclaims the work of His hands.

EPISTLE:

Acts 2:1-11

1When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them.
4And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.
6And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language.
7Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?
8And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?
9Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
11Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.”

ALLELUIA VERSES, TONE 1:

(Psalm 32:6, 13)

By the Word of the Lord were the heavens established and all the might of them by the Spirit of His mouth.
Verse: The Lord looked down from Heaven, and beheld all the sons of men.

GOSPEL:

John 7:37-52, 8:12

37On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.
38He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
39But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
40Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, “Truly this is the Prophet.”
41Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “Will the Christ come out of Galilee?
42Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?”
43So there was a division among the people because of Him.
44Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
45Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, “Why have you not brought Him?”
46The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this Man!”
47Then the Pharisees answered them, “Are you also deceived?
48Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?
49But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed.”
50Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them,
51“Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?”
52They answered and said to him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”

Chapter 8

12Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

INSTEAD OF “IT IS TRULY WORTHY” • IRMOS, TONE 4:

Magnify, O my soul, the Holy Spirit Who proceeds from the Father.
Irmos, Tone 4: Rejoice, Queen, Glory of mothers and virgins. No mouth, however fluent and sweet of speech, is eloquent enough to worthily hymn You. No mind is capable of understanding Your childbearing. Therefore, with one voice we magnify You.

COMMUNION VERSE:

(Psalm 142:10)

Your good spirit will guide me on level ground. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
