SYNAXIS OF THE HOLY ARCHANGEL MICHAEL AND ALL THE BODILESS POWERS OF HEAVEN

(November 8 | 21)

MAGNIFICATION:

We magnify you, Holy Archangel of God, Michael, and you, the Holy Archangels, Angels, Principalities, Dominions, Thrones, Virtues, Powers, Cherubim and Fearsome Seraphim who glorify God.

After each verse, we repeat the Magnification.

1. I will praise you with my whole heart.
2. Before the gods will I sing praise unto you.
3. Who makes his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
4. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

TROPAR, TONE 4:

Supreme Commanders of the Heavenly Hosts, we, the unworthy, ever entreat that through your prayers you surround us with the protection of the wings of your immaterial glory. Preserve us who earnestly fall down before you and cry aloud: Deliver us from misfortunes, for you are the leaders of the powers on high.

KONDAK, TONE 2:

Chief Commanders of God, Ministers of Divine Glory, Captains of the Angels and Guides of mankind: Beseech that which is beneficial for us and great mercy, as supreme Commanders of the bodiless Hosts.

PROKEIMEN, TONE 4:

(Psalm 103:4, 1)

You make Your angels spirits, and Your ministers a flame of fire.
Verse: Bless the Lord, O my soul. O Lord my God, You have been greatly magnified.

EPISTLE:

Hebrews 2:2-10

2For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward,
3how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,
4God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?
5For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels.
6But one testified in a certain place, saying: “What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him?
7You have made him a little lower than the angels; You have crowned him with glory and honor, And set him over the works of Your hands.
8You have put all things in subjection under his feet.”

9For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.
10But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.

ALLELUIA VERSES, TONE 5:

(Psalm 148:2, 5)

Praise Him, all you His Angels: Praise Him, all you His Hosts.
Verse: He spoke and they came to be; He commanded and they were created.

GOSPEL:

Luke 10:16-21

16“He who hears you hears Me, he who rejects you rejects Me, and he who rejects Me rejects Him who sent Me.”
17Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
18And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.
19Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
21In that hour Jesus rejoiced in the Spirit and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.
